Today, people desire wealth above all else.
They yearn for social popularity, success
and fame, and perhaps a career.
However, the most valuable asset
is none of these things.
It is TIME.
Deluded into believing that we possess
earthly immortality that can be extended at will,
we take it for granted.
However, time is irreversible,
whereas wealth, fame and social media “likes” are not.
Once lost, they can perhaps be regained,
albeit with difficulty.
This cannot happen with time.
Our time is being swallowed up
by technology, efficiency
and our mirage of being important,
constantly in demand,
high-performing
and riding the crest of a wave.
Yet this is a wave that devours
our inner spaces,
cancelling out the slowness
necessary for thinking,
meditating
and contemplating the beauty of the universe.
And indispensable for loving.
For loving our loved ones;
for finding moments to share
with those close to us.
And our children, parents and friends.
This slowness is also necessary
for loving ourselves,
so that we can savour
the rapid passing of existence
and expand our perception of inner time
by slowing down its course
through the emotions
of our human consciousness.
